Arizona's monsoon season begins in June and continues through September. With it comes higher humidity, which can lead to thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, hail, high winds, flash flooding, dust storms and extreme heat. But wait, where is monsoon these days?

The National Weather Service said each monsoon season is different in almost every aspect and amounts change dramatically from city to city. We are expecting below-average season! We have had more active fire season than rain and The National Weather Service mentioned it could be due to the abundance of fuel on the ground after our wet winter. But there is not a strong correlation to years of research with wet winters and hot springs to the amount of precipitation we see during the monsoon. Goes back to The National Weather Service said each monsoon is different and varies widely each season.

- "Monsoon" is derived from an Arabic Word, "Mausim" which means season.
- Monsoons don't refer to single storms.
- Monsoons are caused by warm and cold air working together.
- Monsoon rain brings life to desert plants; plant life mean wildlife thrives.
- Monsoon downpours cause dangerous flash floods and mudslides but last pretty short.

How to Stay Safe
- Stay within sheltered areas.
- Stay away from areas that are prone to floods.
- Stay away from metal equipment.
- Watch for dust devils.
- If your caught in your car driving during a monsoon, stop and park the car is your visibility is low. Turn off your lights as this can mislead other drivers to follow and cause a collision.
