Flight of the Mantas takes viewers on a deep dive under the crystal waters off the coast of Mozambique, following marine biologist Dr. Andrea Marshall on her quest to study and protect the local manta ray population. Flight of the Mantas is the eighth virtual reality experience guests can enjoy at OdySea Aquarium’s VR Theater. Other out-of-this-world adventures include swimming with humpback whales, floating through deep space, or even riding a coaster down the world’s tallest skyscraper!

Emily shares her entomology expertise with guests while showcasing these amazing insects from the Spineless Giants gallery in a new and up-close experience inside the Conservatory!  FREE with admission.

The Magic of Music and Butterflies

Aaron White, Native American Musician

Join Grammar-nominated Native American musician Aaron White as he performs in the Butterfly Conservatory, elevating guests’ rainforest experience with the relaxing sounds of the Native American flute. Be there when his award-winning music fills the air and gorgeous tropical butterflies appear to dance in time to every song. FREE with admission.

 

NEW! Nature Walk in Conservatory

Want to know more about all the butterfly and plant species inside the Conservatory? Take a walk through the country’s largest enclosed glass Conservatory alongside one of Butterfly Wonderland’s experts and see this magical space in a whole new way! Learn about butterfly life spans, behavior, and the difference between nectar and fruit eating butterflies! Discover the types of plants and fruits that help butterflies thrive. Don’t miss this incredible educational nature walk at 10:30 a.m. in English with Conservatory Supervisor Nina de l’Etoile or in Spanish at 11:30 a.m. with Education Specialist Jose Gomez. Bug Fest

The Butterfly Wonderland Foundation presents the biggest bug bash of the year, the 7th annual Bug Fest! Enjoy an insect petting zoo, children’s crafts, cockroach races, butterfly and ladybug releases, insect petting zoos, and even some yummy edible insect treats! Stop by the “Hissing Booth’ where photos can be taken holding a Madagascar hissing cockroach! This event is free and recommended for bug-lovers of all ages. 


The Buzz About Bees

It’s un-BEE-lievable! Learn about bees, maintaining hives and more from local beekeeper Cricket Aldridge, founder of AZ Backyard Beekeepers. Visit Cricket in the Conservatory at the Honeybee exhibit where there will be time for Q & A after her presentation!  Honey is available for purchase in the Butterfly Treasures Gift Shop. Yoga in the Rainforest

Practice yoga in the peaceful and magical surroundings of the Butterfly Conservatory featuring thousands of beautiful fluttering butterflies. Butterfly Brushstrokes at Night

Spring Butterfly Hike to Rackensack Wash by CAZBA

Join the Central Arizona Butterfly Association (CAZBA) and Butterfly Wonderland on a special butterfly inspired hike to Rackensak Wash as the group looks for the amazing Yucca Giant-Skipper butterfly. Hike difficulty: moderate (no real trails, rocky creek bed). Participants are asked to wear good hiking shoes, a hat, and bring binoculars, water, and snacks/lunch. Limit 20 people. A donation of $5 per person is appreciated to benefit CAZBA. Detailed directions will be given at time of reservation through Ticketleap. Intro to Macro Photography @ Butterfly Wonderland

Imagine a photography class set in the most beautiful space: the Butterfly Wonderland Conservatory! Learn from professional photographer Jonathan Cline how to capture amazing moments with gorgeous butterflies as the subjects! From close-ups with macro lenses to wider compositions with short and long-range telephoto lenses, Cline will cover the basics of proper exposure (shutter speed, aperture, and ISO), depth-of-field, auto-focus methods, and settings for butterflies at rest as well as busy butterflies in flight. Bring a DSLR or mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Macro and/or telephoto lenses are preferred, but not required. The cost is $55/public and $45 for members. Space is limited. Mindfulness Drawing Class
