We ventured North to Out of Africa Wildlife Park, a park unlike any other zoo or animal experience, and it has something for everyone within its gates. Out of Africa is a unique 103-acre preserve that allows animals to thrive and flourish in spacious exhibits, and none of the animals have to go through any training. The park even lets some of the animal shows run almost completely on improv. Seeing zebras, giraffes, and antelopes free roaming in a nature inspired environment is a truly memorable experience.
Adventure Safari Tour
The park offers a variety of unique ways to get up close and personal to their furry, scaly and slippery residents. One of our favorite options is the Adventure Safari Tour, a giant truck that takes you into some of the exhibits to feed and get to know the animals face-to-face. Get closer than you ever thought possible to giraffes, zebras, sable antelope, gemsbok, and so many more inhabitants of their spacious preserve.
Tiger Splash
For something a little more casual, and easier for little ones, visit the Tiger Splash show. The entire show involves people playing, swimming and running around with a tiger. A mix of comedy and crazy, it’s just plain fun, and a great family activity. The trainers have a fantastic relationship with the tigers! It is crazy to think that these trainers are able to form a relationship with an animal considered so dangerous. Those brave enough can stick around and feed a tiger too. No worries, these events are completely safe. All feedings are done through a protective screen using a feeding tube.
Many of the animals taken into the park were rescued, some from former abusive situations, and others abandoned. Out of Africa receives no state or federal funding, thus the reason for the pricey $30+ per person admission fee. The high fee goes towards protecting these formerly abused, neglected, and abandoned animals, by providing a safer environment for them.
Out of Africa also has one final option: the Predator Zip Line. You can fly over all those spectacular animals for an aerial view that’s to die for. It’s the only one of its kind. As you zip over a desert landscape populated by lions, giraffes, and zebras, you might find it difficult to believe that you’re in Arizona on this adventure tour at Out of Africa Wildlife Park. Ride a series of thrilling single and triple ziplines through the park.
