Children are natural explorers, they use all of their senses to explore. They look and listen to observe what is happening around them, touch what they can reach, smell the fresh scents of nature, and occasionally taste when given permission. They run, jump, dig, and climb as they discover new places. For a child, everything is new, even the tiniest things are interesting and exciting. In today’s world, exploring the outdoors is an opportunity for children to actively engage in learning.
Whether you're exploring your backyard, playing at the park, or having fun in the forest, having the right tools can make your adventures even more fun!
To arm parents with tools and resources to encourage more time outside, Claritin® has launched The Outsideologist Project, which aims to get 1.2 million kids outside for an extra hour per week. The initiative provides families with expert-guided activities to bust boredom and foster a love of the great outdoors. Join Claritin® on their mission to get kids to spend 1 more hour outside per week for better everyday health. We believe all kids should have access to outdoor spaces to play and enjoy fun activities that help them discover the wonders of the outside.
Here are Fun Ways for kids to explore the outdoors
Gardening Activities for Kids
Gardening doesn't require a perfectly level, large, or sunny backyard. Kids need time for meaningful family connection. Time in the garden allows for team building and promotes communication skills. Planning a garden, planting the seeds, and watching them grow gives the kids a sense of purpose and responsibility. Nature has not been canceled and there are lots of opportunities for hands-on learning experiences outside. Your garden can serve as an outdoor classroom for showing your kids how and where we get our food while connecting them to nature and the environment. Even the littlest ones love to learn about dirt, plants, and bugs.
Simple Outdoor Activities
Warm weather is here, which means we're soaking up as much outdoor play time as we can. Whether that's going to the parks, playing in the backyard and in our front yard, being outside is my favorite way for my kids to stretch their imagination and play. Being outside, exploring, using their imaginations and having fun is really the foundation of what childhood memories are built upon, as well as development. The more outdoor activities you can encourage and facilitate for your kids, the more they’ll reap the physical and emotional benefits of such play. Creating outdoor experiences for the entire family is a great place to start!
Nature Outdoor Activities
You might want to plan a trip to an outdoor adventure where you can go hiking, strawberry picking, or check out your nearest lakes. Depending on where you live, the terrain for these activities could be right in your backyard, or you might do well to check out one of the destinations near you. As a parent, I try to get my kids outside as much as possible and take them to different outdoor adventures. I am always looking for new outdoor learning activities to help them explore and try new things. It is proven that the best way for kids, especially toddlers, to learn about nature and the world around us is through outdoor activities and play. Spending quality time with family outside is a priority, and I was very excited to partner with Claritin® to show families what wonders nature has in store for them to discover. So, get outside, slap on a hat, slather the sunscreen, grab your kids, and head outside to make some great memories!
