The Phoenix Zoo welcomed a brand new species to the Zoo this week in addition to 14 babies of a familiar species!

We're excited to announce the birth of 14 prairie dog pups with two more litters anticipated in the coming weeks. The prairie dog habitat is inside the Arizona Trail Aviary and is a bustling town of activity right now!

Nyala, a spiral-horned antelope native to southern Africa has never been exhibited at the Phoenix Zoo before. You can find the three half-brothers, Rye, Rusk and Biscuit directly across from the baboon and mandrill habitats. The three boys arrived on Tuesday of this week from Disney’s Animal Kingdom. At only 10 months to a year old, the boys are not sporting their spiraled horns quite yet but we can’t wait to watch them develop. They are adjusting well into their new habitat and spend much of their day grazing and snoozing!

Phoenix Zoo hours are currently 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., with member entry at 8 a.m.
